Another variation on Sudoku is to overlap multiple puzzle grids.
For example, imagine two overlapping 9 X 9 Sudokus which share a 3 X 3 box. In this case, the contents of that 3 X 3 box could be deduced using clues from either of the puzzles, and likewise numbers in that 3 X 3 box could help you solve either of the Sudokus.
The most common version of overlapping Sudoku puzzles, is Samurai Sudoku. In Samurai Sudoku (also known as Gettai-5), five overlapping 9 X 9 Sudokus are arranged in an X shape (thus there are four 3 X 3 boxes which are shared between Sudokus).
Samurai Sudoku can be a lot of fun, as it adds a new challenge. You'll find that you can't simply solve one 9 X 9 grid and then move to the next - instead you have to switch between grids as you go, because of the subtle interactions caused by the overlapping boxes.
